Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark

Spirit of Adventure

The children use items commonly found in a toolbox (hammer, sandpaper, paintbrush, duct tape, etc.) as metaphors to explore values of our Unitarian Universalist faith, such as questioning, integrity, courage, justice, flexibility, humor, resiliency and love, to gain insight into what makes our faith important in their lives.

They also use the metaphor of windows and mirrors (representing the dynamic relationship among our awareness of self, our perceptions of others, and others’ perception of us) to unpack topics that lend themselves to diverse experiences and perspectives—e.g., faith heritage, public service, anti-racism and prayer. Along the way, they discover that there are always multiple viewpoints to be considered.
