The Color of God
Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 10:00am
Rev. Gary Gallun
We will be celebrating Martin Luther King day as we talk about what it means to have a god of a different color (or gender or in some other way different from oneself.) Traditionally it is said that human beings are made in the “Image of God”. UUs often turn that around and speak of God being made in the “Image of Human Beings”. But, we must then ask, since human beings are so diverse, what language would God speak, what gender would God be, and what color would God be?

Partner Church
Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 10:00am
John Dale
John Dale and his wife, Csilla, are UU tour guides for Pilgrimages to Transylvania (Romania) where they help UUs meet other Unitarians and visit Unitarian towns and churches as they discover the European roots of Unitarianism that go back to the 15th century. For eighteen years the UU Partner Church Council has encouraged and supported congregational partnerships between American and Canadian Unitarian Universalists and UUs around the globe. These relationships weave together the lives and stories of people who share our fundamental affirmations of freedom of conscience in matters of religion, tolerance for those with different beliefs, a reasoned approach to religious ideas and a willingness to grow and change in our religious understandings. Following the worship service John will stay to speak about how members of this congregation can become part of the Partnership Church program.

Stages of Unitarian Universalism
Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 10:00am
Rev. Gary Gallun
To truly become a UU religiously is not as easy as joining a club even though simply signing the membership book and making a pledge are the “official” requirements. Like any other religion, it only becomes part of one's very being gradually -in stages. What are those stages?

Our Pilgrim Roots
Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 10:00am
Rev. Gary Gallun
As we celebrate Thanksgiving we need to remind ourselves that the "Pilgrims" who sat down with the “Indians” on the first Thanksgiving were not just the ancestors of all Americans but also, more specifically, the direct ancestors of Unitarian Universalists. How did we get from there to here? The offering this Sunday will benefit the Newark Area Welfare Committee food drive.

It’s been said the only gifts we can give our children are roots and wings. In addition to dedicating our new stained glass window and our newest hymnals, we will take the time to honor the gifts of both foundation and spirit that our elders have given us. Following the service we will intentionally cross generational lines to break bread together and spend some time getting to know one another better.

Masks We Assume
Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 10:00am

It is fun at Halloween to wear costumes and cover up with masks. When it is over we can discard our costumes and remove our masks, right? Or, are there masks that we cannot abandon so easily?

Why We Matter
Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 10:00am
Rev. Gary Gallun
Does it really matter to our world, our community or to us personally whether or not the UUA and this congregation exist? And, if it does, what is our individual responsibility to this congregation and our denomination?
